Phonology   Phonology is the study of sounds in a language. Phoneme: the basic unit of sound.     Semantics   Semantics is the study of the meaning of language Morpheme: The smallest unit of sound to carry meaning. Pragmatics   Pragmatics is the study of the use of language. Deals with the intentions behind the utterances.   Syntax   Syntax is the study of the structure of language and how words can be formed to create gramatically correct sentences.
